Last Saturday our family spent all day walking up at Western's track to participate in the Relay for Life to raise money for the American Cancer Society. We were part of the WWU Alumni team and had a great time. All of the teams combined raised over $80,000 for cancer research! Chris and I both have family members who have been affected by cancer, so the cause is close to our hearts. Both Lexi and Alyssa were with us. Lexi had a great time running, kicking the ball and helping to push Alyssa in the stroller. Alyssa...well, she ate and slept!
She refused to wear a nametag so we stuck it on her back without knowing!
The viking helmets were part of our team's attire!
Funny enough, people kept asking if they could buy one of our hats. So, we ended up selling several of them and donating the money back to the cause.
"We hate cancer!"

At 10:00 that night, there was a luminary lighting ceremony. Earlier in the day, you could pay $5.00 to decorate a luminary that would be lit and placed on the track for the ceremony. It was very powerful to see all of the lit luminaries and to read the messages that were on the bags. It was also a wonderful time to think, remember and reflect on the people we love who have battled or are still battling cancer. Miss you Grandma...
